Ripple Brings Hyperliquid to Wall Street: Over 100 U.S. Stocks, Gold, and Energy Perps Transformed into Institutional RWA Swaps

Ripple is repackaging crypto-native perpetual swap markets into prime brokerage products tailored for Wall Street institutions.

On the 15th, Ripple announced the launch of “Real-World Asset (RWA) Perpetual Swaps” via its Ripple Prime platform. This offering enables institutional investors to gain 24/7 exposure to over 100 traditional financial markets—spanning individual stocks, equity indices, ETFs, metals, energy, and foreign exchange (forex).

The underlying reference markets for these products are perpetual swaps listed by Trade.xyz on the decentralized derivatives platform Hyperliquid. Virtu has already signed on as an institutional client for this service.

Ripple is not simply “importing” Hyperliquid; it is repackaging it into an institutional-grade swap product.
Ripple Prime has not acquired Hyperliquid, nor has it integrated Hyperliquid’s order-matching engine directly into its own infrastructure. Instead, the architecture functions as follows: Trade.xyz provides perpetual swaps for traditional assets—such as stocks, commodities, and forex—on the Hyperliquid platform, while Ripple Prime acts as the principal counterparty, offering corresponding RWA swaps to its own institutional clients.

Consequently, institutional clients face Ripple Prime as their counterparty, rather than an anonymous DeFi protocol.

This is the core significance of the partnership: Ripple has transformed a crypto-native perpetual market (Hyperliquid) into an over-the-counter (OTC) swap and prime brokerage model familiar to traditional institutions.

Access to over 100 markets: from U.S. stocks to gold, crude oil, and forex.
According to Ripple, the initial suite of products covers more than 100 reference markets, including U.S. equities, stock indices, ETFs, gold and other metals, energy commodities, and foreign exchange.

Unlike traditional futures, which have fixed expiration dates, these products utilize a perpetual futures structure. They employ mechanisms such as “funding rates” to ensure that the contract price remains closely aligned with the underlying asset’s market price. Its most significant feature is the ability to trade and settle 24/7; even when the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, or commodities exchanges are closed, institutions can still manage their exposures via Ripple Prime.

Virtu has already entered the fray—this is more than just a proof of concept. Ripple has confirmed that Virtu Financial, a major global electronic market maker, is already utilizing these “RWA Swaps” (swaps involving Real-World Assets) through Ripple Prime.

Scotte Moegling, Head of Digital Asset Business Development at Virtu, noted that Ripple Prime’s 24/7 cross-asset margining capability allows institutions to allocate capital more efficiently as markets increasingly shift toward round-the-clock trading.

This is particularly crucial. For large trading firms, the primary value of RWA perpetuals (perps) isn’t merely the ability to take positions on assets like Nvidia stock or gold over the weekend; rather, it is the capacity to consolidate diverse holdings—such as cryptocurrencies, equities, and commodities—under a unified margin and risk management framework.

RLUSD can also be used as collateral.

Ripple Prime has further confirmed that institutional clients can use RLUSD—Ripple’s USD-pegged stablecoin—as collateral.

This creates stronger internal synergies within Ripple’s business ecosystem: Ripple Prime facilitates trading and financing, RLUSD provides USD-denominated collateral, and the underlying market connects to 24/7 digital asset infrastructure, including platforms like Hyperliquid.

Consequently, Ripple is doing far more than simply enabling institutions to trade cryptocurrencies; it is building a cross-asset prime brokerage platform capable of supporting digital assets, equities, commodities, foreign exchange (forex), and stablecoin-based collateral.

Is Hyperliquid evolving from a crypto-perpetuals exchange into global market infrastructure?

While Hyperliquid was previously best known for perpetual contracts on assets like BTC, ETH, and SOL, its ecosystem has recently begun incorporating equities, commodities, forex, and other real-world assets (RWAs) into its on-chain perpetual markets—facilitated by frameworks such as HIP-3.

Ripple’s latest offering effectively provides a gateway for these on-chain RWA perpetuals to reach traditional institutional markets. Instead of needing to set up their own Hyperliquid wallets or manage the risks associated with DeFi smart contracts directly, institutions can gain exposure through Ripple Prime. This model likely represents a more viable path toward genuine institutional adoption than requiring large asset management firms to interact directly with a decentralized exchange (DEX).

Market data also indicates that Hyperliquid has already developed into a substantial derivatives ecosystem.

According to the latest figures from CoinGecko, HYPE is trading at approximately $81.50—up about 2.5% over the past 24 hours—with a market capitalization of roughly $18.1 billion and a 24-hour spot trading volume of approximately $910 million. Meanwhile, data from CoinGlass shows that HYPE futures open interest stands at about $3.26 billion, with a 24-hour futures trading volume of approximately $2.8 billion; during the same period, $8.1 million worth of positions were liquidated.

Within Hyperliquid’s own HYPE perpetual market, open interest sits at approximately $1.63 billion, reflecting a high concentration of leveraged trading activity directly on the platform.

Consequently, Ripple’s decision to utilize the Hyperliquid market as a reference source for its “RWA Swap” is not merely an engagement with a small-scale DeFi experiment; rather, it leverages one of the most active on-chain derivatives markets currently in existence.
